Landing on Mars

Greenhill Gained Confidence to Take Risks and Lead Change

Like many of her classmates, Gealita Greenhill knew that Owen was the right spot for her after her visit on Discover Weekend. Right away, she says, "I felt that my ideas and aspirations mattered to everyone I encountered," and that faculty and staff took pains to pair her with those "who could provide the best insight and advice moving forward."

In particular, Gealita was impressed with the way Owen empowers students to help set the school's direction–and even before starting classes she began to envision how she could make an impact. She became part of four student organizations, serving as an officer in two. Later, she served as a leadership coach for Owen's Leadership Development Program–an effort that sharpened her own skills.

The combination of empowerment and a well-rounded business education left Gealita feeling prepared for anything. "Now," she says, "I feel equipped with the knowledge and confidence to take risks, lead change and impact the bottom line of an organization."

Gealita is now making her mark as an organizational development manager at Mars Inc., the world-renowned candy, food and pet food company.
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
